Sinus Grafting

Sometimes implants can be difficult to fit because bone loss (resorption) has occurred. This can be because of age or disease, or because people have worn dentures long term and it makes implants problematic because there is nothing available to ‘anchor’ it to in the mouth.

The upper teeth can be particularly problematic because the bone separating the mouth from the maxillary (main) sinus is very thin and there is nowhere for the implant to go. A sinus graft is inserted into the ‘floor’ of the sinus creating a thicker layer of bone above the top teeth.
