We take referrals from general dentists all over the midlands area and beyond. We offer our own patients general dentistry and hygienist services and if they need specialist treatment it is all under one roof and are referred within the practice, we even have a laboratory on site. Jose Zurdo

Specialist in Periodontics

Jose graduated in Medicine at the University of Bilbao, Spain in 1983 and in Dentistry at the University of Barcelona, Spain in 1986. He formed a partnership practice in Spain where he worked as a general dentist until 1998 and developed over the years a special interest in Periodontology and Implant Dentistry.

He moved to the USA in 1999 where he completed a one-year full-time program in Periodontics at the University of Texas, Houston. From there he went on to become a qualified specialist periodontist with the completion of a three-year full-time program, as well as research Masters degree, at the University of Göthenburg, Sweden.

His main areas of clinical interest are the treatment of periodontal disease, regeneration, implant dentistry and cosmetic soft tissue management. Jose is currently the Course Leader of the MSc in Clinical Periodontology and Senior Lecturer in the MSc in Dental Implantology at the Institute for Postgraduate Dental Education, University of Central Lancashire.

The General Dental Council recognised Jose as a Specialist in Periodontics in 2002. Jose is familiar with several implant systems in both surgical and restorative phases, although his preferred implant system is the Astra-Tech system.

Cristina Romao

Specialist in Periodontics

Cristina qualified in Lisbon’s Faculty of Dentistry in 1992. Thereafter she was invited to join the Department of Biomaterials as a junior lecturer/researcher. Concomitantly she started her own private practice dedicated to general dentistry with great emphasis in Restorative and Periodontics.

At the Faculty of Dentistry she lectured undergraduates and was also involved in teaching Dental Hygienists, Laboratory Technicians and Dental Assistants.

Her special interest in Periodontology led her to pursue a three-year full-time postgraduate program with the Department of Periodontology of Gothenburg University, where she qualified as a Specialist in Periodontist in 2002 and completed her research Masters degree in 2003.

Cristina is currently a Senior Lecturer in Periodontology at the Institute for Postgraduate Dental Education, University of Central Lancashire.

The General Dental Council recognized Cristina as a Specialist in Periodontics in 2003, and Cristina joined the Carisbrooke team in January 2004.

Michael Hodgson

Specialist in Prosthodontics

Michael trained at Kings College Hospital London and qualified in December 1981 and was awarded honors in Pathology and Microbiology. During his time as a student he was awarded the Medical Protection Society prize for an elective study on the treatment of cleft lip and palate patients in Toronto and London.

Upon qualification he served a short service commission of 5 years in the Royal Air Force serving in the United Kingdom and Germany. In 1986 he joined the Carisbrooke Dental Practice. In June of 2000 he was awarded Specialist status in Prosthodontics.

Michael practices a full range of prosthodontics, the majority of his time is now spent placing and restoring dental implants, of which he has years experience having been trained at the Eastman Dental Hospital. He is committed to post graduate education and has lectured in this country and
abroad. Michael uses the Astra Tech implant system.

Neil Millington
MSc BChD MGDS RCS (Eng)
Specialist in Prosthodontics

Neil qualified at Leeds university in December 1981, winning the Watssman prize for Clinical Dental Practice and a certificate of merit in Prosthetic Dentistry. On graduation he joined the Royal Air Force on a short service commission and worked as a Dental Officer in UK and Germany. His RAF career was interrupted with a 15-month period in a busy NHS practice in Newark, then rejoined the RAF for a further 11 years.

Neil spent a year in full time study at the Eastman Dental Hospital, resulting in an MSc with Distinction, in Prosthetic Dentistry (1991). Following this Neil attended a number of implant courses including time at The Branemark Clinic in Gothenburg, Sweden. Neil then set up the RAF dental implant programme and was the RAF Clinical Adviser in Prosthetic Dentistry. Neil joined the Carisbrooke Dental Practice in 1998. He is committed to postgraduate education and lectures in the UK and abroad. His main areas of clinical interest are in advanced fixed and removable restorative dentistry and dental implant treatment. His preferred implant system is the Astra Tech system.

The James Hull Group awarded ‘Joint Specialist Dentist of the Year 2007’ to Mike and Neil. Mike and Neil work together as a team with their nurses on complex cases.

Specialist in Endodontics

Capel graduated from Guys Hospital, London in 1979, and was a House Officer for the department of conservation and joined the Carisbrooke Dental Practice in 1980. Senior partners encouraged an early interest in Endodontics and he attended many courses to develop his skills. Referrals from within the practice spread and he has been accepting referrals from General Practitioners for the last fifteen years.

Capel has lectured to VT and BDA groups and has run a series of one day, hands on courses. In 1995 he successfully sat the membership in General Dental Surgery examination at the Royal College of Surgeons of England and was admitted to the Endodontic Specialist Register in 2000.
