Implants

The clinical protocol implemented at the Specialist Dental Centres aims to maintain the highest clinical standards for patients treated with dental implants. The procedures described enable us to provide a consistent high-quality level of care and follow-up as well as provide documentation for outcomes.
The goal of the treatment is to provide the patient with a functional and aesthetic dental restoration whether they require treatment for single tooth loss, partial edentulism or total edentulism.

Patients with bone diseases, immuno-deficiency or who are non-compliant may not be suitable for implant treatment.

Patients referred to the Specialist Dental Centre for implants will be treated by clinicians who have received training in and are accredited to use several implant systems, including Branemark and Straumann systems. Alternative systems are also available if required. Complicated cases are fully catered for to include:

  • less than 10mm
  • less than 5mm ridge width at implant site
  • full jaw cases
  • patients with complicating diseases
  • patients requiring bone grafts
  • patients requiring sinus lift

The patient will be returned to the referring practitioner for prosthetic treatment, unless otherwise stated.

Specialist Prosthodontics are available to complete complicated cases (see Prosthodontic Protocol). An outcome of treatment is considered favourable when:

  • the implants are retained, stable and restorable
  • the patient can receive a functional dental restoration
  • there is an absence of pain and peri-implant pathology
  • aesthetics and function are satisfactory to the patient

Our centres carry a number of Implant Systems including Straumann, Astra and Ankylos.
